Dark Arches Track Renewal
This circa £20m project involved the full renewal of approximately 840m of track along the area known as Dark Arches and Whiteabbey including track drainage, new cable routes and retaining wall structures. Signalling upgrades have also taken place. We provided Strategic Communications services to support the delivery of this project.

Our Involvement
The track was renewed during a 10-day line closure over Christmas 2021 with significant works completed in advance. Working with Translink and the contractor Babcock, Gravis Planning assisted the project team through drafting a range of written materials including a brochure, PowerPoint and community newsletters.
We ensured the local community was kept informed throughout the construction programme by taking forward significant consultation including a series of public events, webinars and ongoing correspondence. A presentation was also delivered to Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council on the project, and briefings provided to all relevant elected representatives and key stakeholders such as the PSNI and Environmental Health. A package of community benefit was also provided to local schools and community groups leaving a lasting legacy associated with the works.
