Our Involvement
The proposed works include improvements to its acclaimed Championship Strand Course - which hosted the 2017 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open - and its Riverside Course, as well as a new practice area with covered bays, new putting and chipping greens, and additional parking to accommodate the influx of visitors the Club welcomes during the busy summer period.
Gravis is managing the planning application for the proposed development and is working alongside sub-consultants with the planning authority and a number of statutory consultees to satisfy queries around ecology and residential amenity. Gravis is also managing the Pre-Application Community Consultation (PACC) process for the proposal, engaging with local people, the Club's members and also with elected representatives to collect feedback and garner support for it.
With over 1,600 members, Portstewart Golf Club is one of the largest golf clubs in the UK and Ireland. It is also a major employer in the local area with excess of 60 staff and its courses attract over 10,000 visitors from the USA alone annually, contributing significantly to the local economy. The proposed modifications to the courses and upgrade of facilities are necessary for the club to maintain and strengthen this position.
