Our Involvement

This facility replaced the Erne Hospital and includes an A&E facility as well as a GP Out-of-Hours service.

It is a 300-bed acute hospital on a 16-hectare site with 785 car parking spaces and includes the main hospital building, an energy centre and key workers' accommodation. It possesses equipment with the most advanced capabilities in scanning, imaging and diagnostic technology.

An issue encountered in this project was the need to demonstrate that the proposed height and built form of the development proposal would not have a negative impact on the surrounding landscape. There were also some ecological issues, including bats traversing the site, as well as traffic and parking arrangement concerns.

We project managed the full Article 31 major planning application and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the Northern Ireland Health Group.

We proactively liaised with the Strategic Projects Unit Team in Planning Service Headquarters to ensure that all design, ecological and traffic-related issues were identified and addressed pre-submission in order to obtain full planning permission within a 7-month timeframe for this major project.
