Reflections on IBEC's Accelerating Infrastructure Conference

On behalf of Green Frog Power, we are delighted to have secured planning permission from Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Planning Committee for a battery energy storage system (BESS) on Doagh Road in Kells.
In 2024, nearly 26% of renewable electricity generated in Northern Ireland was lost due to grid constraints and curtailment. Therefore, there is an urgent need for the construction of BESS projects to facilitate the storage of this clean energy and allow it to be released back onto the grid at a later time when it is needed to meet consumer demand.
Green Frog’s consented development in Newtownabbey represents an investment of around £50 million in renewable energy within the Borough, and stands to generate approximately £100,000 in rates per year for the Council.
We look forward to seeing this critical infrastructure be delivered.
