Gravis achieves planning success in GB for RAW EV Charging

19 September 2024

We are delighted to have secured a number of planning approvals for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in various locations throughout Great Britain on behalf of RAW Charging.

EV charging

We have been working with RAW Charging for close to two years now. Our role involves providing planning advice in respect of permitted development rights for EV charging installations, together with site appraisals and the preparation and management of planning applications to install EV charging infrastructure. This can include chargers, feeder pillars, substations and connection to the main electricity distribution network.

Recent approvals have been obtained in England, Scotland and Wales, each presenting their own unique set of challenges and opportunities.

In England, for example, EV charging infrastructure was proposed on National Trust sites including Wrest Park in Bedfordshire, Clumber Park in Nottinghamshire and Nymans in West Sussex. Given the conservational and historical importance of these sites, engagement with Council Conservation Officers and the procurement of Listed Building Consents (LBCs) were necessary to secure planning approval. The presence of EV charging infrastructure on these sites will provide a means for visitors to travel both to and from them more sustainably.

In Scotland, planning permission was obtained for EV charging infrastructure at Cuddie Brae Pub & Grill in Edinburgh, promoting greater customer footfall and encouraging greater EV usage in the Edinburgh metropolitan area. This development was sensitively designed to protect the amenity of surrounding residential properties. In Wales, EV charging infrastructure was approved at The Copper Pot Pub in Swansea, responding to similar challenges in the context of planning policy and providing the same host of environmental and economic benefits.

These case studies, which form just a fraction of extensive portfolio of planning approvals for RAW Charging, demonstrates our capability and capacity to successfully manage multiple planning applications in various locations and jurisdictions simultaneously.

We are pleased to be working alongside RAW Charging as they continue to make EV charging more accessible and affordable to motorists across the UK and Europe, in turn promoting greater uptake of electric vehicles and helping to tackle climate change.
